The UK's most famous theme park, Alton Towers, is full of rides for kids and adults of all ages - so it's perfect for family days out. You'll be screaming, letting off steam, riding and sliding all day long.

Alton Towers Rides

Adrenaline fuelled rides include Nemesis, an intense experience with G-forces greater than a space shuttle launch, and Oblivion - the world's first vertical drop coaster. Then there's Air, where the lying-down riding position makes you feel like you're flying, and Rita Queen of Speed, which accelerates from 0-100km/ph in a jaw-dropping 2.5 seconds.

If you fancy some light-hearted family fun, the theme park's amusement rides make an unforgettable experience. Get gloriously wet on the Congo River Rapids, or scare yourself silly on Hex - The Legend of the Towers. Climb aboard the Runaway Mine Train for a small child-friendly rollercoaster, or fight with ghosts and ghouls in Duel.

Little ones can have fun too with the huge selection of kiddy-friendly rides at Alton Towers. Highlights include the Squirrel Nutty Ride, which takes you on a trip through the tree tops, and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Ride, where you can enter the wacky world of Willy Wonka! Kids can even learn to drive at the Peugeot Driving School, or get to know some farm animals on the Doodle Doo Derby.

Other Attractions at Alton Towers

If it's raining and you don't fancy a wet trip around a rollercoaster, you can head for Sharkbait Reef by Sea Life. The pirate-themed aquarium takes you on a journey deep beneath the waves, where kids and adults alike will marvel at the weird and wonderful creatures on display.

There are lots of other attractions around the park too - take charge of a tractor as you explore Old Macdonald's Farmyard, get sporty as you play Extraordinary Golf, or simply take a stroll in the Towers' beautiful landscaped gardens.

You'll also find live shows in the Mutiny Bay and Cloud Cuckoo Land sections of the park for a bit of interactive fun.

Cariba Creek Water Park

Alton Towers has a secret gem hidden away next to the theme park - the Cariba Creek Water Park. An oasis of fun for all the family, the water park is open all year round - so you can go when the theme park itself is closed. The water is lovely and heated too - so it's never cold, even in the middle of winter.

The tropical park has hundreds of interactive features, from lazy rivers to crazy cannons and the sensational Master Blaster rollercoaster. There's also a waterside cafe for when you need to re-fuel, so you can keep going all day long.

Alton Towers Hotel and Accommodation

The Alton Towers Resort has two fantastically fun hotels to choose from, both of which offer packages so you can enjoy the theme park or water park and stay overnight at a great price.

Kids love the Caribbean-themed Splash Landings Hotel, which is situated next to the water park. Standard rooms have a beachcomber theme, or there are pirate-themed rooms for special occasions. Fun family rooms with bunk beds are available. For food, the Flambo's Feast restaurant offers a range of mouth-watering cuisine, while Ma Garrita's bar will help to get you in the holiday mood. Both look out over the water park so you get a great view too. Plus there's kids' entertainment every night.

The Alton Towers Hotel next door is based around the exploits and adventures of Sir Algenon, and is full of quirky details. Standard rooms have an explorer theme, and like the other hotel there are also special rooms - choose from the Arabian Nights room, the Big Pyjama room, the Peter Rabbit room and more! The Secret Garden restaurant offers brasserie style dining, and the entertainment is suitable for all ages.

There's an internal walkway connecting the two hotels - so you can explore both, no matter which you choose to stay in.

Food and drink

Enjoying all the rides and attractions at Alton Towers can be thirsty work - but there are plenty of places around the theme park where you can refresh and refuel.

If you want something quick and easy there's a huge choice of fast food outlets, including Fresh Fish 'n' Chips, Eastern Express and Burger King. If you have time to sit down and enjoy a good meal, there are plenty of options for that too including the Explorers' Pizza and Pasta Buffet, where you pay one price and eat as much as you like.

For quick snacks, you can choose from doughnuts, ice cream, hot dogs and more. All tastes and appetites are catered for, so you'll find something for all the family!
